This beautiful pileated woodpecker was in my back yard yesterday. Such brillant colors.
Wikipedia states about the pileated woodpecker - "(Dryocopus pileatus) is a very large North American woodpecker, almost crow sized, inhabiting deciduous forests in eastern North America and parts of the Pacific coast." The map also shows this bird in the Midwest.
I hope I see it again and get some pictures that are closeup.

I love woodpeckers! We have two in our neighbors palm tree behind us....for a long time there was one and I watched him/her for several years and now there are two! I don't know if he/she got married or what, but it's fascinating to watch them.
