Boycott

I turned to Larry King Live last night and saw Paris Hilton on the show and immediately turned the station. I'm boycotting everything Paris. No linking to news stories, no watching anything on TV about her, nothing, nada. Probably won't do any good, but it will help me to know I'm not buying into the media frenzy. The whole story would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

What Is In My Purse?

I saw this on JenMarie 702's blog and thought it would be fun to show what is in my purse today:

1. Cosmetic bag - brightly striped bag. I also have two more bags that look just like it except larger sizes.

2. Pocket PC - I keep my calendar, contacts, tasks, dictionary and bible on this small handy PC. Can't live without it. I can also show digital pictures on it.

3. Cell phone

4. Coin purse with credit cards

5. Nail polish - Mabelline Brawny Tawny

6. USB Memory Stick - Never know when you need to save documents or pictures to transfer.

7. Keys with American Red Cross key chain.

8. Bath & Body Works Hand Lotion - Crisp Citrus Herb

9. Aspirin bottle that includes tylenol, ibuprofen, benedryl, and tylenol pm.

10. Reading glasses - unfortunately I need these from time to time.

11. Gum, Extra Wildberry

12. Pier One Gift Card - Want to buy a bookcase, chase lounger and/or pillows.

I Found It!

I've been out shopping looking for the perfect dress to wear to an upcoming wedding. I started out looking for a simple black dress to wear, but ended up with something quite a bit more colorful. I just love it. It is very comfortable to wear and I really like this style. The size fit well but I cannot gain a pound and still be comfortable! Good incentive to keep my weight down. I'm not sure what shoes, purse and jewelry I will wear with it yet, but am glad I found this dress.

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day! What a beautiful day we had today to celebrate. My husband is a wonderful husband and father. He always helped out when the children were little, coached their sports teams as they grew up and encourages and counsels them now that they are grown. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and basketball, all types of hunting, Cardinal baseball, and labrador retreivers. He can fix about anything and does all the remodeling on the house himself (wallpaper, painting, drywall, etc.). In "Trivia Pursuit" he seems to know every answer and usually wins! His children like to play that game with him to see if they know enough yet to beat him! He's a great Christian man who teaches Youth, sings in the choir and sings in a Quartet. We have been married 27 years and every year gets better.

My own father is 78 years old and going strong. He has been having some asthma and coughing problems lately that is driving him crazy, but other than that, good. He grew up with 4 brothers and a sister and has some crazy stories about "walking uphill both ways going to a one room school in 4 feet of snow"! He served his country in the Korean War and was a Rural Mail Carrier the majority of his working career. By hobby, he enjoyed fixing cars and so it took me some time before I would take my car to a local mechanic and not my dad! He's always been very active in church and made sure we all attended whenevery the doors were open! My dad took us on a camping vacation every year. Some years we took three week vacations. As a child, I traveled to every state but three with my family. I'm pretty much a daddy's girl and my mom says he listens to me more than anyone else (I'm not sure that is true -- he can be pretty stubborn sometimes). My parents have been married 56 years and have always been great role models.

Deals

I enjoy getting out from time to time and checking out the local garage sales. It's always interesting to see what people are selling. I save up change over the winter months and then use that money to purchase items that I cannot live without (wink, wink)! Here are a few of the fun things that I have purchased this summer. I'm not sure I needed a teal colored pitcher, but I love pitchers!

Decoupage

I've been wanting to try out decoupaging ever since I read Monogram Momma's blog (or was it -- so many blogs do great crafting) giving directions. I had not ever tried this craft before and thought it sounded interesting. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a wooden trashcan, scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, and an exacto knife. It was a lot of fun to do and didn't turn out half bad for my first attempt. Next I bought a blackboard at a garage sale that had decorative fruit painted on the wood paneling around the board. I then used some wallpaper from our family room and decoupaged around the blackboard. I will hang this in my downstairs kitchen next to the family room to use for fun notes. I'm on the lookout for my next decoupage project. No object is safe around me now!

Violin Lessons

Violin. A beautiful instrument. My daughter started with piano and then violin and my son took a few piano lessons and then moved to trumpet. We felt that it was an important part of their raising to be introduced to music. Alas, they both always enjoyed sports more though!

My son-in-law plays the violin brilliantly. He gives violin lessons in the Kansas City Missouri area. He also plays the electric violin in a band called Ross Christopher and the Familiar Voice. Part Three - Nashville Attractions

Our vacation was three days over Memorial Weekend so we had to decide what we wanted to see out of all the interesting places in Nashville. To see some of the countryside surrounding Nashville we drove south about an hour and half to tour the Jack Daniel's Distillery. My hubby loves to learn more about processes and how they work. It is interesting that the county that Jack Daniels is located is a dry county.

We also visited the Country Music Museum. I grew up with a lot of country music played at our home, so I was very familiar with the early country singers (Porter Waggoner, Chet Atkins, Hank Snow, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, etc.). The museum was very well organized and had a lot of historical information about the beginnings of country western.

On our last day right before leaving, we stopped by Centennial Park, Nashville's Premier Urban Park. They have a re-creation of the Parthenon in Athens Greece. It was a beautiful park and they were just starting to setup craft booths for Memorial Day in the park. We were unable to stay and tour the art museum because we had a long drive to make to get back home.


We really enjoyed our trip and now know a few places to visit when we return.
