Ash Wednesday
Growing up I do not remember ever knowing anything about Ash Wednesday. I am Baptist and that just did not ever hit my radar. My funny story about Ash Wednesday is that when I was in college I almost told a girl that she had a black smudge on her forehead but my girlfriend stopped me and told me what it was. Somehow I missed seeing this in High School. Must have been oblivious.
In the last several years, our church has had an Ash Wednesday service. We use the service as a prayer service and acknowledging what Christ means in our life. We can choose to give something up for Lent as a way to focus on Christ prior to Easter.
I haven't decided yet if I will be giving something up for Lent. If I did, what would that be? Giving up chocolate would sure help with weight loss (not the right purpose). Giving up TV would kill me (probably the right purpose). Could I just promise to focus on Christ's death and resurrection without giving something up? The answer is yes. But will you do it? Whether I give up something or not, I do need to make a more focused effort to reread the Easter story, contemplate on what Jesus did for me, and look for service opportunities to show Christ's love through me.

TV
I was shopping in Target on Thursday and just stumbled upon a great 19" flatscreen TV that was only $200. I thought, hmmm, I could really use a new TV in my bedroom and $200 is a great price. So after looking and looking for someone to talk to about the aforementioned TV, they told me they were out of stock but would get a new truck in on Friday morning or Saturday morning and just call to find out if they received anymore. Well, I did just that ... and no TV!
But now, I reallllly needed this TV! I asked if they could sell the display but the answer was no, not until the TV was discontinued, which this one was not. So, while my husband and I were visiting in another town over the weekend, I made sure we dropped by their Target to see if they had this TV. I rushed in and they did have the same TV with the same sale price. I'm getting excited. I stand in line behind a young man with his pants down below his behind (my gosh) and wait to hear that they are also out. The sale ends that day. Ahhhh! I asked about how many they had gotten into the store and she said they received 20 in the store last Sunday and were sold out by Monday morning and never did get anymore into the store.
Now that just seems crazy! Twenty .... really! Could someone just have told me when I first saw this TV that we have this on sale for a great price but we just are not going to get anymore into the store or any store.
Oh well, I really don't have to have that TV! I just love a bargain!

Dream Home
Dream Home 2009! Sonoma, California. Today is the last day to register to win. Follow this link to enter. Beautiful house. Love the porch. Sunny California.
I love HGTV. I could get caught up watching that station all day if not careful. My favorite shows are Decorating Cents, Design on a Dime, House Hunters and Designed to Sell. I'm always looking for some ideas that I can incorporate into my home.
So don't forget ... enter to win this beautiful home.

Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day! Do you have big plans for this Saturday?
We will be spending the day with our little valentine. She looks like a sweet valentine in this pretty pink dress.
Tomorrow night we have a Valentine Banquet at our church. It should be a fun evening. Visiting with friends, good food, and fun entertainment.
Valentine Smile
On Valentine's Day we think of those
Who make our lives worthwhile,
Those gracious, friendly people who
We think of with a smile.
I am fortunate to know you,
That's why I want to say,
To a rare and special person:
Happy Valentine's Day!

Tar-Zhay
Found some time yesterday to shop at Tar-Zhay! The trenchcoats to the left are really cute. They are $39.99. I didn't purchase them this time but have my eye on them.
I did buy a new purse. I thought it would be easier to carry on our upcoming vacation to San Antonio. You put it on over your head and carry across your body. Good distribution of weight.
The other purchase I made was some kitchen towels. They had a great sale on them. Always can use extra.
My granddaughter, Cora, visited this weekend (she also brought along her parents!). We had a great visit. She got to explore grandma and grandpa's new toy room. (Will show pictures of this room in an upcoming blog.) She did a lot of ooohs and aahhs.

Reading
I am currently reading "Angels and Demons" from Dan Brown. I am a quarter of the way in and am enjoying the book. I hope to get it read by the time the new movie comes out on May 15. That sounds like enough time but you never know ... just need to make it a priority. Turn off the TV, stop reading through magazines, etc. etc.
I read "The DaVinci Code" and went to see that movie. Enjoyed both. I didn't get wrapped up into the controversy of the movie and/or book. Well written and just fiction. My apologies to anyone that feels strongly regarding this book.

- Inappropriate clothes at work.
- People who touch your stomach when you're pregnant ... it is still my stomach! Not that this will happen to me again .. but I feel sorry for other people.
