My Aching Back

More exercise is in order. It is never good when you end up having intense lower back pain just from picking up your granddaughter while she and my daughter visited for several days.

Ibuprofen and heating pad helped immensely.

Decorating with Cora

We had a 50th birthday party for my husband over the weekend.

Cora decided that we had too much black crepe paper for decorations and so she pulled down what she didn't like!

Happy 50th Grandpa!

Sweet 16 Baby!

My NCAA bracket is looking really good so far. I'm in a family bracket competition and I am tied for first place after yesterday's games. Woot! Woot!

The best news is that my beloved Mizzou Tigers made it to the Sweet 16. They play again Thursday against the Memphis Tigers. I have Mizzou winning in my bracket but many others do not. They couldn't go ONE more level with the Tigers. Boo!

This last week has been crazy for me at work and then Saturday we had a big 5-0 birthday for my hubby and Sunday a wedding shower for a friend's daughter, so ... I'm wore out! This week my daughter and granddaughter are coming to stay with us Wednesday through Sunday so I'm just looking forward to doing whatever they want to do and play, play, play with Cora.

San Jose Mission

I took many pictures of the San Jose Mission in San Antonio, TX.

Our trolley guide said this mission had the 2nd best acoustics after Mormon Tabernacle.

The picture below has a cross in the forefront and beautiful flowers. They haven't had rain since May so there are not a lot of flowers blooming. It rained while we were there so maybe their flowers will start blooming.

San Antonio Trip

We just returned from a trip to San Antonio, TX. My husband had a conference planning trip preparing for a September conference. Surprisingly, the weather was not what I thought it would be in southern Texas! It was rainy and in the 40's the days that we were there. Luckily, I had looked at the weather website ahead of time and threw a few sweaters and long pants into my suitcase.

San Antonio was very happy about the rain. They have not had rain since May. I did not lock myself in my hotel room but ventured out in the cold and rain and purchased a ticket on a trolley that traveled around to various sites in the city and you could get off and catch the trolley when it came back around in one hour. My first stop was the Alamo, then the Marketplace and then San Jose Mission.

The next few blogs will be dedicated to some travel pictures and stories. So many places in San Antonio to take great pictures. Beautiful colors, architectural designs and historical photos. The weather actually helped with my picture taking. Didn't have to worry about where the sun was!

San Antonio is such a fabulous city. My trolley guide was so very friendly and informative about the city. A lot of history ... if I could only remember what he told me! But very interesting at the time he was telling me.

We stayed at the Gunther Sheraton Hotel only a block off the Riverwalk. We stayed Wednesday through Saturday of last week. It was a nice break and I'm not exactly looking forward to going back to work ... but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

My next blog - pictures of the San Jose Mission. Stay tuned!

Grandparents

I received this cute e-mail from a friend. Enjoy.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT? (taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man & a grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.
When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on "cracks."
They don't say, "Hurry up."

Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes.
They wear glasses and funny underwear.
They can take their teeth and gums out.
Grandparents don't have to be smart.
They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?".

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6 year old asked where his grandma lived. ‘Oh, “He said, ‘She lives at the airport and when we want her we just go get her. Then when we’re done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.”

Invitation

I am one of the hostesses for an upcoming bridal shower. This is a picture of the invitation I developed and sent out. I found the card stock at Office Depot (they are going out of business -- so great price). I added the bow and printed the invitation information onto the card from my trusty printer.

It was fun working on this project. I love working with graphics, fonts, etc. Other projects I have done are fliers and slides for upcoming Bible Studies and Women's Conferences. I also have begun a digital scrapbook of pictures of Cora.

My newest project is a sun dress for Cora. I haven't worked with my sewing machine for awhile. I'll post pictures when I have the dress done.

Retirement can't come fast enough so I can work on projects all day!
